What’s the core idea behind JMJ and its services?

The central idea behind JMJ is to use technology to transform a traditional professional services company into a technology-enabled organization. This transformation involves employing existing tools and developing proprietary algorithms to better understand and quantify cultural change. We’ve been focused on understanding how mindsets shape behaviors, which has given us a new perspective on creating meaningful cultural change within organizations.

What are the major challenges in the leadership development space, and how do you address them?

One of the significant challenges our clients face is understanding their organizational culture’s capacity to implement change and accurately measuring the impact of their internal leadership programs. It is crucial to identify what works, but it’s also important to uncover blind spots that may hinder progress. Our primary offering centers on safety culture transformation, yet we extend our analysis to understand the DNA of high-performing teams.

Using diagnostics on our Transformation Cloud™ technology platform, we analyze individual and collective behaviors to predict team performance and identify safety risks. This data allows us to examine how tasks and responsibilities are distributed among roles and why leaders and team members perform as they do. We enable leaders and workers to achieve deeper levels of self-awareness, build greater trust and collaboratively resolve points of contention by adopting this modern approach to cultural transformation, leading to improved performance and safety outcomes.

Can you talk about Transformation Cloud and what it entails?

Transformation Cloud is our comprehensive technology platform that supports every facet of our organizational transformation practice. The practice consists of three phases: assessment, transformation and sustaining the change. We use our proprietary analytics tools for the assessment of the current state of an organization’s culture. During the transformation phase, we employ virtual and digital learning modules to guide leadership development and facilitate cultural shifts, while mobile tools and ongoing assessments help sustain progress.

A standout feature of Transformation Cloud is its ability to quantify and visualize cultural shifts. It enables leaders to track changes in perception and behavior in measurable formats. This provides clear evidence of transformation and insights into the effectiveness of their efforts, allowing organizations to sustain their ideal state.

How does DEV:Q™ enhance organizational culture?

DEV:Q is an advanced algorithm we developed to quantify an individual’s working mindset. It captures how individuals approach tasks, interact with teams and perceive their work environment by asking 24 structured questions with responses reflecting their distinct values. The algorithm generates a DEV:Q score, which categorizes individuals into archetypes, creating a shared language for understanding perceptions of tasks, roles and responsibilities.

For instance, execution-oriented individuals prefer clear direction, and vague assignments can create friction for them. In contrast, strategic or visionary individuals thrive with less guidance and respond well to big-picture ideas. DEV:Q captures this diversity of work styles, helping leaders better understand their teams.

Once we map individual mindsets, we analyze them at the team level to determine whether a team is preservation-oriented and focuses on established rules or innovation-driven, emphasizing collaboration and forward-thinking. This “Moneyball for corporate culture” approach provides insights into mindset distribution across a team, enabling us to predict performance, identify potential risks and understand how they pursue shared goals. Ultimately, DEV:Q optimizes team dynamics by aligning individual and organizational mindsets and correlating them with key performance indicators.

How do you help leaders achieve results in safety and performance?

At JMJ, we are deeply committed to transformational work, focusing on fostering self-awareness and accountability for behaviors rather than mere compliance. Our approach helps individuals build a relationship with their behaviors and take ownership of them. This dynamic is central to our consulting efforts and continues to strengthen us as we enhance our ability to quantify and validate these transformations.

We blend traditional consulting methods with advanced, technology-driven insights. Tools like DEV:Q and our Safety Leadership Characteristics assessment provide leaders with structured ways to understand their decision-making patterns and safety practices. DEV:Q deepens individuals’ and teams’ understanding of their approach to a task and interactions, while the assessment evaluates how leaders process essential practices like psychological safety and intentionality. This increased awareness makes leaders more effective, self-aware and aligned with their organizational goals.

By integrating these diagnostics with our human-centered consulting, we significantly impact safety, sustainability and overall business performance, helping organizations shape and validate their cultural transformation efforts.

Can you share some client success stories?

One example of our impact involved an oil and gas client experiencing significant bottlenecks due to friction between their engineering and construction teams. As the project time drew closer, misunderstandings escalated. We used DEV:Q to map each team member’s working mindset, creating an objective framework that clarified their differing task approaches. This shared language disarmed the conflict, allowing for smoother communication and the resolution of challenges through a jointly built working contract, ultimately getting the project back on track and finishing on time and within budget.

Another transformative case involved a multinational construction company merging two culturally distinct divisions in Asia and the Middle East. The teams struggled to unify due to their vastly different work approaches. We conducted interviews to identify key friction points and used DEV:Q to map over 400 employees, visualizing how their mindsets complemented each other. This awareness led to intentional conversations that addressed pain points and fostered a unified vision for the merged organization. The success of this integration created opportunities for us to replicate the process in other regions, showcasing our ability to bridge cultural gaps and align teams without being constrained by demographics.

What does the future hold for JMJ?

Building on the impact of Transformation Cloud on our cultural transformation work, we are expanding our diagnostics to cover key areas like sustainability, process safety and fleet safety. We’re adapting to the changing needs of our clients and the culture and business transformation sector by being committed to continuous innovation as we grow while staying true to our values.
